There's no doubt about it. Getting older does have limitations after all.
Up until recently I never thought of myself as getting 'older' until I had to read a label on a bottle of vitamin tablets. And the reason I thought I needed vitamins in the first place was because I thought I had something wrong with my eyes.
Just goes to prove how right I was; but I now doubt whether those vitamins are going to be much help. I took myself off to the Optometrist and yep, sure enough, my eyes now need more than just reading glasses. What a bummer!
And it's summer here in Australia when the humidity rises and glasses fog-up.
That is, if the droplets of perspiration don't make your glasses need wipers first. At least I don't have to worry too much about the rain. There's simply not much of that around these days.
You see, with the aircon going in the car, by the time you stop and get out of a decently cooled interior, the sudden burst of hot air on cool glasses blinds you momentarily. This makes me actually stumble around as if I really am old. My Chiropractor likes it though because my contortions dislocate my neck.
This is all too much. It's enough to drive a lady down a long, hot highway and off into the sunset in the search for more moderate weather. Ideally a place where I am not betrayed by fogged up glasses when I eventually leave my car.
I'm quite sure there are other 'baby-boomers' out there who can relate because they too are experiencing similar limitations.
It's enough to make one find a nice cool spot under a shady tree and read a good book.
Whoops! I forgot, reading may now be a bit of a problem.
But wait ~ another 'baby boomer' has made a contingency plan. Enter the wonderful world of Technology where we can now hear our books read to us.
And all I need to carry around is an iPod, MP3 player or CD Discman. No more need to carry heavy books around just to learn or keep myself occupied. No more do I have to live with what someone else thinks I should be interested in but I actually have the choice of over 5,000 books with new books added daily.
Now that is the type of bloke I wish I had met in my middle-years ~ but he may look better to me now seeing as I have more wisdom than eyesight. One day I would like to see him but I guess by that time I'll be as blind as a radar-less bat.
Thank heavens for Audio books ~ at least I'll never be bored or have to succumb to getting old disgracefully.
